IUI Fertility Treatment

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment that offers hope to couples struggling to conceive. It is a relatively non-invasive procedure designed to enhance the chances of pregnancy in cases of certain fertility issues. The process involves carefully monitoring a woman's ovulation cycle and preparing a semen sample, ensuring it contains the healthiest and most viable sperm. During the woman's fertile window, the prepared sperm is introduced directly into the uterus, bypassing potential obstacles in the cervix. IUI is often recommended for couples with unexplained infertility, mild male infertility, or cases where the woman's cervical mucus may impede sperm movement. It's a less invasive and more affordable alternative to more complex fertility treatments like IVF.

Ovarian Stimulation

In the initial stage, stimulation medications are administered to encourage the development of one or more mature follicles within the woman's ovaries.

Monitoring and Hormone Levels

Pelvic ultrasounds track endometrial health and follicle development. Hormone level blood tests help determine the best time for fertility.

Ovulation Induction

Following the ovulation induction cycles, an hCG injection is administered to trigger ovulation. This injection finalizes the maturation of the egg and facilitates its release from the follicle wall.

Semen Collection

A semen sample is collected from the male partner after abstaining from ejaculation for 2-5 days.

Sperm Processing

The collected semen undergoes "sperm processing," isolating and concentrating sperm from other components. Various techniques and media are used, taking 30-60 minutes, selecting the best sperm.

Insemination

To facilitate insemination, a speculum is gently placed in the vagina, and the cervical area is cleansed. The prepared specimen, containing highly motile sperm, is then introduced into the uterine cavity using a sterile, flexible catheter.
